A former advisor at the Prime Minister’s office and State Foreign Minister of Somalia Dr.Mohamed Nur Gaa’l has been elected the new speaker of Galmudug parliament.
Dr.Ga’al garnered 54 votes in the first round to emerge winner in the elections conducted Friday.
His only competitor, Abdinasir Aden Osman got 34 votes while one vote was spoilt.
Galmudug parliament is made up of 89 MPs with the moderate Islamist group Alhu Sunna Wal Jamaa allocated 20 seats in a one term deal with the Federal Government.
The election of Dr. Ga’al as speaker now paves way for the election of the new Galmudug president. The election dates have not been announced yet.
