In what is an opportunity for the two sides to land their third ISL titles, both ATK and Chennaiyin are expected to put on a contest. ATK have been one of the most consistent teams in this edition, whereas Chennaiyin FC have had a glorious turn around in fortunes after a disastrous start to the season.
The Marina Machans underwent a managerial change midway through the season with Owen Coyle taking over the reins from John Gregory. The change in manager worked wonders for the team as they managed to string a number of wins which propelled them from the bottom half of the standings to making their third appearance in the final showdown.
They have beaten ATK at the Salt Lake Stadium in the league stage which will give them significant confidence. Nerijus Valskis and Rafael Crivellaro have been in scintillating form and they will ask questions of the ATK defence.
Chennaiyin will ride the experience of Eli Sabia and Lucian at the back, in their bid to keep out Roy Krishna and David Williams. The likes of Anirudh Thapa, Edwin Vanspaul and Germanpreet Singh will have a battle on their hands against a skillful ATK midfield that has the likes of Edu Garcia and Javier Hernandez.
On the other hand, in Antonio Habas, ATK have a coach who knows the recipe to success in ISL. He led ATK to their maiden title win in 2014 and will give his all to become the first manager to win two titles.
ATK lost out on the AFC Champions League spot to FC Goa, and now they will want to make sure they leave no stone unturned to crown their season with a piece of silverware.
The Kolkata-based outfit will be pinning their hopes on the attacking partnership of David Williams and Krishna as the pair have been in fine fettle in the run-up to the final.
The Indian contingent has also performed equally well as the likes of Pritam Kotal, Prabir Das and Sumit Rathi have been some of the most consistent performers for the red-and-white brigade. Chennaiyin will have to keep an eye on Das and prevent him from crossing into the box as his deliveries have more often than not found its target-man.
Meanwhile, Rathi has been a revelation for ATK in this season. Barring a shaky display against Bengaluru in the semi-finals the teenager has hardly put a foot wrong. He has grown in stature as the season progressed and now has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.
An exciting contest is on the cards as both the outfits will fight tooth and nail to become the most successful ISL side with three silverware to show for their efforts.
