IMF’s Kristalina Georgieva tells FRANCE 24 some eventual debt forgiveness is not off the table

There has been a massive international effort to strengthen Africa’s capacity to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. The continent is expected to pay a devastating economic toll in the response. Lenders have offered $ 57 billion in loans and grants to help alleviate the immediate impact of the crisis. The head of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, told Georja Calvin-Smith that a possible cancellation of the debt was not excluded.
