The French Public Health Authority said on Friday night that there were “no signals in favor of resuming the epidemic” in French territory despite the occurrence of 109 clusters since May 11.
All signals are green. Since the containment was lifted on May 11, 109 outbreaks of Covid-19 (or “clusters”) have been identified in France, but no one has yet been responsible for the spread of the epidemic, according to the French public health agency. More generally, there are “no signals to resume the epidemic”.
In its weekly paper, Friday, May 29, the Health Office notes that “109 clusters (excluding Ehpad and limited family environment) have been reported: 104 in France and 5 in the overseas regions.”
“No community dissemination (occurrence of new cases outside the community and in connection with the cluster) is reported uncontrolled,” according to Public Health France.
In one of five cases, the outbreak is checked (no new case 7 days after the last one) or even extinguished (no new case within 14 days).
During the previous update on May 21, the number of outbreaks increased to 46. However, the health authorities have repeatedly pointed out that an increase was not bad news per se, but on the contrary reflected better tracking capacity. Provided these outbreaks are controlled by isolating the positive cases.

Of these 109 households, “64% have more than 5 cases”. “They particularly affect people in precarious and vulnerable situations (19% in social housing and integration facilities and 6% in vulnerable communities), health care institutions (22%) and more generally (20% private and public companies),” the health agency specifies.
149,071 cases between January 21 and May 28
It also considers that “149,071 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in France” between January 21 and May 28.
This number comes from new more “exhaustive” estimates thanks to “transfer of data from patients tested in city and hospital laboratories” (a system known as SI-DEP).
For the week of May 18-24, “216,891 patients” were tested at Covid-19 and 4,119 were positive (1.9%).

The degree of positivity for virological tests (which let you know if you are infected when you do them) is important for early detection of any recurrence of the epidemic.
Public Health France emphasizes that “for more than seven weeks, the epidemiological indicators of circulation of SARS-CoV-2 have fallen or remained at low levels in France.”
Among these indicators (deaths, hospitalization, admission to intensive care, etc.), “the proportion of new cases (…) among residents in nursing homes has decreased over the past 14 days compared to the last 14 days”.
