Wijnaldum moves to Liverpool extension

Dutch international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum may soon sign a new deal with his Liverpool squad.

Gigi Wijnaldum’s contract will expire at the end of next season, which means he will be free to talk to other clubs from January.

The European champions are slow to finalize a new deal for their midfielder at the moment and raise fears among supporters that he will not be able to leave this summer. But according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the talks between the two sides are far advanced. He tweeted: “Talks between Liverpool and Gini Wijnaldum’s agent to extend his contract are going very well …”

Wijnaldum, 29, has played with the Reds since the 2016/17 season. He has 18 goals in 174 appearances with the Klopp squad.

Before the season ended, the former Newcastle player had played 35 games during 2019/2020. But he does not count any crucial passports to his calculator. His last “assist” goes back to the 2017/18 campaign.
