Japan: update of candidates for successor Shinzo Abe

In Japan, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (PLD) must elect the successor to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday, September 14, who has resigned for health reasons. In the run, we find Yoshihide Suga, head of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and government spokesman, Shigeru Ishiba, former defense minister, and Fumio Kishida, former foreign minister. Meanwhile, several opposition parties are trying to regroup to form a counterweight to the conservatives in power.
