SRCS, 8 May 2019 – The volunteers and staff of the Ururka Bisha Cas (SRCS) are celebrating their unique relationship with communities across the country today, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

SRCS President, Mr. Yusuf Hassan Mohamed said, “Our volunteers and staff work hard across Somalia every day, but 8 May is a time to celebrate the difference they make and the lives they change in communities large and small, responding to crises of all kinds, and helping people to live safer and more dignified lives.”

The SRCS reaches more than three million people every year with a diverse range of services tailored to the needs of communities across Somalia. From Disaster Management and Community Resilience, Restoring Family Links (RFL) to First Aid Services we can help people to prepare for, cope with, and recover from a disaster or crisis.

“The SRCS has been serving the people of Somalia since 1963. Our volunteers and staff work towards helping you, wherever you are, and whatever you are living through.” added SRCS President, Mr. Yusuf Hassan Mohamed.

“We are everywhere for everyone. This is our commitment to you, and our commitment to humanity.”

Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers are as diverse as the life-saving and life-changing services they provide through the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: 190 National Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

This local action is supported by the global reach of IFRC, ICRC, as well as partnerships with sister National Societies across the world.

The SRCS president, Mr. Yusuf Hassan said, “Whatever you are living through – a natural disaster, a health crisis, the effects of conflict or violence – we are here to support you through our countrywide network of 19 branches and 130 sub branches.”

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated every 8 May. It recognizes the bravery and dedication of volunteers and staff members around the world.
