Workers Hold Nationwide Moment of Reflection for Gaza
Workers throughout Ireland engaged in a moment of reflection in response to the ongoing violence in Gaza.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) called for a moment of respectful contemplation at lunchtime, as a simple gesture of solidarity and remembrance for the lives lost over the past 18 months.
Today marks the International UN Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
“As the horrific violence in Gaza persists, our members have requested that the trade union movement take the lead in reflecting on this profound loss of life,” stated ICTU General Secretary Owen Reidy.
“The UN Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression offers a chance to pause and reflect on these tragic events and their devastating consequences for the people of Gaza, especially the children who have endured so much,” Mr. Reidy added.
Workers who wished to participate were invited to observe the moment of reflection solemnly, whether in their workplaces, at home, or in any location they might be.
ICTU clarified that this moment of reflection was not considered a work stoppage and encouraged participants to coordinate with their employers whenever feasible.
SIPTU staff and members conducted a solidarity action at 1:05 PM on Butt Bridge in Dublin, directly across from the ‘Ceasefire Now’ banner located on the side of Liberty Hall.
