Ukraine Reports 14 Fatalities from Russian Strike on Kyiv
According to Ukraine’s interior minister, at least 14 individuals lost their lives and 44 were injured during a Russian attack on Kyiv overnight.
The assault caused damage to residential buildings, educational institutions, and essential infrastructure, as reported by Minister Ihor Klymenko via the Telegram messaging app.
Witnesses observed swarms of drones over the capital and heard what seemed to be missiles flying overhead.
Other regions of the country also faced attacks, including areas surrounding the capital and the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, where the regional governor noted at least four strikes.
Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, mentioned 12 strikes across five districts, with a kindergarten among the targeted sites in the city’s eastern area.
In recent weeks, both Ukraine and Russia have conducted mass drone offensives while engaging in two rounds of direct negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing war that has persisted for over three years. These discussions have led to agreements on the release of prisoners of war and the repatriation of deceased soldiers, but little else.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, remarked on Telegram, “More strikes by Russian drones on residential buildings in Kyiv. Russia continues its war on civilians.”
In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that Russian air defense units successfully thwarted an attack involving two Ukrainian drones. Consequently, the city’s airports were temporarily closed.
