Ministry of Information Concludes Workshop on Adopting Digital Media Transformation
Jun 12 (Jowhar) The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia has concluded a workshop in Mogadishu focused on adapting to digital media transformation. The training emphasized how media institutions can leverage technological advancements while addressing the growing risks posed by cyberattacks, disinformation, and manipulation through social media platforms.
The workshop brought together 25 journalists from various public and private media outlets across the country. Trainers focused on enhancing journalists’ professional skills, understanding of digital journalism, social media policies, countering digital threats, and promoting the verification of information prior to dissemination.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Duale, encouraged journalists to take an active role in leading the evolution of Somali media in alignment with global standards. He underscored that a professional and modern media landscape is essential for an informed society and good governance.
Abdishakur Ali Ahmed, Director of Strategic Communication at the Ministry of Information has stated that the workshop is part of a broader strategy to empower Somali media professionals to navigate and lead within a rapidly evolving digital landscape responsibly and skillfully.
Participants, especially those managing social media for both private and public media institutions, thanked the Ministry for organizing a timely and much-needed training.
The Director General Mr Hayir has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening professional media development and digital transformation efforts. He expressed gratitude to the United Nations Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) for its support and urged participants to apply the lessons learned.
