Musk Expresses Regret Over Certain Trump Posts, Admits They Went ‘Too Far’

Billionaire Elon Musk has expressed regret over some of his posts made last week regarding US President Donald Trump, admitting they went “too far.”

Last week, Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk engaged in a heated exchange on social media, with the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX referring to the president’s extensive tax and spending bill as a “disgusting abomination.”

On Saturday, Mr. Trump stated that their relationship was finished, though he later mentioned he would not mind if Mr. Musk reached out to wish him well.

“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Mr. Musk noted in a post on his social media platform X.

Following Mr. Musk’s post, Tesla shares in Frankfurt rose by 2.44%.

Since the dispute began, Mr. Musk has removed some posts critical of Mr. Trump, including one that showed support for impeaching the president.

Insiders close to Mr. Musk indicated that his anger has begun to fade, suggesting he might be interested in mending ties with Mr. Trump.

Mr. Musk’s apology came shortly after Mr. Trump issued a warning to the tech billionaire, threatening “serious consequences” if he attempted to punish Republicans who support a contentious spending bill.

The fallout stemmed from Mr. Musk’s critical comments about Mr. Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful” spending bill, currently under consideration in Congress.

Some politicians opposing the bill had urged Mr. Musk—one of the Republican Party’s major financial supporters in last year’s presidential election—to finance primary challenges against Republicans who voted for the legislation.

“He’ll have to face very serious consequences if he does that,” Mr. Trump said on Saturday, also calling Mr. Musk “disrespectful,” although he did not elaborate on the nature of these consequences.
