Man Appears in Court Over Liverpool Car Attack

The individual charged with driving into crowds during the Liverpool FC victory parade, resulting in 79 injuries, has appeared in court.

Paul Doyle faces seven charges, including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in connection with the incident that disrupted the city’s grand Premier League celebrations on Monday.

The 53-year-old provided his name, date of birth, and address during a brief appearance at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.

A total of 79 individuals, ranging from nine to 78 years old, were hurt when a car drove into Liverpool supporters celebrating their club’s record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.

Seven people remain hospitalized, as reported by Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Jenny Sims.

During the press conference, Ms. Sims stated, “I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.”

“Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to uncover the answers to all those questions,” she added.

“Once we are able to, we will provide further information,” she mentioned.

According to Sarah Hammond from the Crown Prosecution Service, “Prosecutors and police are continuing to work quickly to review a significant amount of evidence.”

“This includes various pieces of video footage and numerous witness statements. It is crucial to ensure every victim receives the justice they deserve,” she explained.

Ms. Hammond noted that all charges “will be kept under review as the investigation develops.”

Hundreds of thousands of Liverpool FC fans gathered in Liverpool city center for the lengthy parade led by the club’s star players when the celebratory scenes turned into chaos.

Images shared on social media captured the car driving through the crowd and hitting people.

Four individuals, including one child, were trapped beneath the vehicle, which had to be raised for their rescue, according to fire services.

In other videos circulating online, the car was seen being stopped and surrounded by furious fans, who smashed the back windows while police attempted to control the situation.

Authorities quickly dismissed the possibility of terrorism and promptly disclosed the suspect’s identity to counter misinformation circulating online—a rare move.

Police had previously indicated that the vehicle involved in the incident was able to follow an ambulance after a temporary roadblock was lifted.
