Paris, June 2024 — French President Emmanuel Macron announced this week that the United States will play a leading role in overseeing any potential ceasefire agreement between Ukraine and Russia. The statement comes as international efforts to bring an end to the conflict intensify, with renewed diplomatic activity across European capitals and Washington.
A Call for American Leadership
Speaking at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Paris, President Macron emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement in securing and maintaining peace in the region. “Given the scale of the conflict and the interests at stake, it is essential that the United States be at the forefront of any ceasefire process,” Macron said.
